London Knowledge Map
Taking an average of three to four years to pass, the ‘Knowledge’ test is the hardest of its kind. I set out to draw attention to this astonishing feat of human endurance, a tradition which is sadly fading away.
The fabric within the hoop depicts the entire area of London learnt by cabbies over the average three year period. I set out to embroider the city by hand at the same pace.
The embroidered section depicts the first of three hundred and twenty ‘blue book runs’ studied by ‘knowledge boys’. It took one week (29 hours) to complete.
